Brief roundup in lieu of a real post:

Spent a long weekend with Sheryl, which explains the lack of posting over the weekend. A splendid time was had by all.

Finally getting around to listening to the double CD of Jackson C. Frank’s Blues Run The Game that I got for Chanukah. Been waiting for this one for a while…ever since I heard Simon and Garfunkel’s cover of the title track way back when.

Looks like both John and I might lose out on our little no-stakes wager over when Gonzales will be out. He’s holding on a lot longer than I thought. I’ve got until Friday to win it, though.

Reading Osamu Tezuka’s Buddha. I’m a (very) occasional anime watcher, and this is my first real foray into manga, and I’m enjoying it (although from what I’ve read, I seem to be starting at the top). I’m currently on Volume 2. Likely more thoughts to come.

Hitting the Decemberists concert tomorrow night. Should be a good time.

Some new pix in the Flickr feed (to the right). Check them out. They’re awesome.

My guess is that he’s only got another week and a half, but John went out on a limb and thinks he’ll be out by Friday. The question is: Once they throw him off, do the wolves stop coming? The Senate voted to take back confirmation power for federal prosecutors 94-2. Maybe Congress remembered that they’re a coequal branch of government.

Playing the original NES version of Super Mario Brothers on the Wii tonight has just brought home to me what a brilliant concept the Virtual Console is. Tapping into the nostalgia market of 20-something geeks like me is just a gold mine. All they need now is an attachment where we can simulate blowing into the cartridge to make it work.

In other news, headed to ManchVegas this weekend to see the fam…they get edgy if they don’t visually confirm my well-being from time to time.

Ok, ok, it’s been a while. Again. But I have an excuse…I’ve spent the last week in El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula. That’s right, I was down SoCal way in the city of angels. For work.

I’ll spare you the gory details, other than to say that it involved 11-hour days and working all weekend, and that I’m glad to be back in civilization. A few highlights below:

Long Beach Airport
Welcome to the Third World. I’ve never been to an airport where the majority of the facilities are outside before, so new experience there. In all seriousness, this place is about one step up from a collection of tin-roofed shacks.

In-N-Out Burger
Mmm…3×3 animal style. With shake and fries. Next time, make it a 4×4 and ditch the fries. Also, they have “Proverbs 3:5″ printed on their cups, which happens to run: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.” Frankly, when eating fast food, that seems like good advice.

Nobody Walks In LA
In many ways, LA is the opposite of my own beloved Boston (home of the bean and the cod). While Boston is, in my view, a city built for walking around, LA is built for people with cars. As in, it takes 20 minutes on the freeway to go to the grocery store. I assume that there’s some sort of charm in this somewhere, but damned if I can find it. I felt pretty stranded once I was back at the hotel each night, and just being able to leave my office today and walk to get lunch, and then walk to get the T to head home was kind of a joy.

And things have got to be pretty bad to make me appreciate the T.

Anyway, I’m back now, and posts should now return to their regular schedule of whenever the hell I feel like it, but preferably once a week or more.

PS: Anyone out there played with Twitter? It looks interesting, kind of. In that “Web 2.0″ kind of way.
